Domain nameservers

Learn which nameservers to use with Universal Computing hosting, how to update them at your domain registrar, and where to manage your DNS.

What nameservers to use

Use these nameservers for any domain where your website is hosted with Universal Computing:

  • ns1.universalcomputing.co.uk

  • ns2.universalcomputing.co.uk

  • ns3.universalcomputing.co.uk

  • ns4.universalcomputing.co.uk

Nameservers tell the internet where to find the DNS records for your domain. Those DNS records control where visitors see your website and where email for your domain is delivered.

Using Universal Computing nameservers is required to receive our free SSL certificate for your hosted website. If your domain remains on third-party nameservers, we cannot provide free SSL, and you will need to purchase an SSL certificate from us at an additional cost.

How to change your nameservers

Follow these steps in the account associated with your domain (usually your domain registrar, such as the company where you bought the domain).

Log in to your domain registrar account

  • Sign in to the website where you registered your domain name.

  • Open the area where your active domains are listed (often called My domains or Domain management).

Open the domain settings

  • Select the domain name that hosts your Universal Computing website.

  • Look for DNS or nameserver settings. This may appear as Nameservers, DNS Management, or Advanced settings.

Update the nameservers

  • Find the list of existing nameservers and remove or overwrite the current entries.

  • Enter all four Universal Computing nameservers:

    • ns1.universalcomputing.co.uk

    • ns2.universalcomputing.co.uk

    • ns3.universalcomputing.co.uk

    • ns4.universalcomputing.co.uk

  • Save or confirm the changes.

Confirm the changes are active

  • Check that your registrar now shows the four Universal Computing nameservers for your domain.

  • If the interface offers a Save, Apply, or Confirm button, make sure you complete that step so the change is submitted.

  • Changes to nameservers can take up to 48 hours to take effect.

DNS management with Universal Computing

After your domain points to the Universal Computing nameservers, manage your DNS records (such as A, MX, TXT, and CNAME records) in the Universal Computing control panel.

  • Control panel URL: https://cp.universalcomputing.co.uk

  • Login or registration URL: https://cp.universalcomputing.co.uk/basket-summary-login?r=%2Fmanage

Use the control panel to keep your website, email, and any other services pointing to the correct servers.

What happens next

DNS and nameserver changes do not take effect immediately across the entire Internet. Most domains update within a few hours, but in some cases, it may take longer for every network to see the new settings.

During this time, some visitors may still see your old website or receive email via the old settings, while others use the new configuration. If you still see the old site after a reasonable amount of time, try clearing your browser cache or checking on a different device or network.
